Making A Difference

When you get a new idea, somthing that you think will propell your business to a higher level or simply improve on a process, do you act on it or does your idea simply fade away and die?

If it dies, then here is a good way to keep it alive. This is not rocket science now and most people do not do this. The ones that do are those you see in the front running of their business.

So what's the simple technique to keep your ideas alive?

Write them down and post them where you can see them. duh...

If you see your new idea everyday, then chances are you will act on it and it can become a point of leverage for your business.

I'm sure you have heard the term "multi-tasking" and you probably think it is a very productive way to achieve results. I have found that you will achieve results but they will be far below your overall objective.

Say you are working on just three projects at the same time. You work for a couple hours on one, then a bit on the second, and finally a few minutes on the third project. Even though you made progress on each, none of them are complete.

Had you focused on results and taken the most important project and put the same amount of time into it that you put into all three, chances are you could have finished it therefore greater results faster.

By focusing on results is sort of like a small child learning to walk. First they learn to roll over, then they can sit up on their own, next they learn to pull up holding to an object and finally they walk.

Some times you do have to have more than one project going on at the same time but I encourage you to "focus on results" and work to finish one project before moving to the next. You can be assured you will have greater results.

How simple does this sound? Doing the common things. Pretty basic stuff but how many people really understand the concept that if you do the common things uncommonly well, you will excel and grow in your life and in your business.

Take customer service as and example. I alway have told people working for and with me that if you have to call a customer back to give them the answer to their question or problem, you better call them back...today! Even though you may not have the answer to their situation, call your customer and tell them that. They just want to know what is going on. They need information.

What common thing are you doing uncommonly well in your business that your customer will remember? If you can't think of anything, then how do you expect to survive?
